Straight answers about sending, claiming, and redeeming Treats — and how businesses join.
What is Treat?
Treat is a digital gifting platform. People discover gifts from local businesses, send them digitally, and recipients claim and redeem them. Businesses use Treat to offer digital gifts with QR-code redemption and recipient management.
How does gifting work?
You choose a gift from a business on Treat, purchase it in the Treat app, and send it to someone. They receive a link, claim the gift, and redeem it when they visit the business.
How does a recipient claim a gift?
The recipient opens the gift link, downloads or opens the Treat app, and claims the gift with a Rwanda phone number. Treat sends a verification code on WhatsApp. After verification, the gift is attached to their account and a claim QR code is shown.
How does phone-number claiming work?
Gifts are claimed with a Rwanda mobile number (MTN, Airtel, or Tigo). Treat sends a one-time code on WhatsApp. There is no SMS code for claiming. Once verified, only that profile can present the gift for redemption.
How do businesses redeem gifts?
Staff open Treat, go to Redeem or Scan, and scan the recipient’s claim QR code — or enter the claim code by hand. Each gift can be redeemed once.
How does QR redemption work?
After a recipient claims a gift, Treat shows a QR code that encodes the gift’s secure claim link. The business scans that code at checkout. Treat marks the gift as redeemed so it cannot be used again.
What happens if a gift is lost?
The buyer or business can mark a sold gift as lost in Treat. A lost gift cannot be redeemed. Contact Treat support at hello@treat.app if you need help recovering access.
What happens if a voucher is stolen?
Report the gift as stolen in the Treat app. Stolen gifts cannot be redeemed. Treat support can help review the sale if you email hello@treat.app.
Can gifts expire?
Yes. Businesses set availability and expiry on each gift. Expired gifts cannot be purchased or redeemed. Check the gift details in the app before you send or claim one.
How do businesses join?
Download the Treat app, sign in with Google or Apple, and complete business onboarding. You can create gifts, send them to customers, and scan redemptions from one place. Email hello@treat.app if you want help becoming a partner.
